ABOUT THE PROJECT
Square footage: 14 m²
Type of object: Flat in a multi-dwelling building | children’s room
Type of project: Room furnishing
Year of design: 2020
This project revolved around a six-year-old boy who had just entered the first grade of elementary school. His parents wanted the room to be timeless and suitable for many years to come. This boy’s wish, however, was to sleep, play, do homework, and other things “upstairs” (that is, at height). The room has a sloping ceiling as it is located under the roof. The knee wall is barely 65 cm high, while the highest point in the room reaches 310 cm. A considerable span in a room of only 14 sqm.
We used a neutral color palette and simple furniture lines to provide a neutral field for colorful children’s toys and experiences.
The desk is long. And it is never too long in the children’s room. Homework, plasticine, computer, puzzle… And hey, let there be enough space for a brother, sister, or a friend to join you.
A special feature of this room is a loft net under the ceiling. Our six-year-old wished he had a place at height for himself, for his toys, for the bed, and for the desk. Unfortunately, we could not fulfill this wish for architectural reasons (unfavorable position of the windows and doors, sloping ceiling). However, we have arranged a corner for him where he can play, read, listen to music, and even do his homework with a small portable desk. The loft net is just below the window with a beautiful view of the mountains. In fact, he would not be able to enjoy such a view without this nest, as the lower edge of the window is at a height of 237 cm. So we placed the nest next to the window, but in order not to block the entry of daylight into the room, we decided to make a mesh platform, instead of the classic wooden one.
Another feature of this room are wall bars that serve as a ladder to the loft net, gym tool/frame, clothes hanger, carrier for movable shelves, an organizer for office accessories, toy hanger, and why not hang a small basketball hoop on the bars?
